The city-wide competition of tango with style and elegance begins Friday,
January 4 and continues until February 10 at 34 milongas as part of the
Festival Buenos Aires Tango sponsored by the government of the city of
Buenos Aires.  It is open to dancers over the age of 18 who are not stage
professionals.  Semifinals in each milonga will be judged by a
representative of each milonga and a member of the Asociacion de Maestros,
Bailarines y Coreografos de Tango Argentino.

The finals will be held on three nights with live orchestras in outdoor
locations: Feb 15 at Parque Lezama, Feb 22 at Parque Centennario, and March
1 at Centro Cultural Recoleta.  One finalist couple will be chosen at each
final competition.  These three couples will represent the City of Buenos
Aires in the World Championship of Tango Salon in July 2002 during the First
Winter Festival Buenos Aires Tango.  The prize will be a contract with the
Secretary of Culture during 2002 for three performances for a total of $600
per couple.
