Argentine Tango with Brooke Burdett
in San Francisco January 3-8, 2002


Brooke Burdett is an adventurous and life-long dancer who helped initiate
the Denver tango community in the mid-90's.  She moved to Buenos Aires 5
years ago to live and breathe the tango from its core. Recognized for her
elegance on the dance floor and celebrated for her clarity and generosity in
the classroom, Brooke teaches and performs tango in Buenos Aires, the US and
Canada and has made instructional videos with Daniel Trenner and Mariano
Frumboli (better known as "Chicho").  As an expert leader AND follower
dedicated to improvisation and expression, Brooke has a unique teaching
style which allows students to be creative from the start. Her  most
influential instructors have been Gustavo Naveira & Olga Besio, Fabian
Salas, Chicho, Graciela Gonzalez, Florencia Taccetti, Mingo &Esther

Workshop Schedule:

Friday, January 4
7- 8:30  p.m.   Follower's Technique and Adornment I -
 Basics:  Posture, elegance, form, balance, beginning adornments.
Men are welcome to come as followers.
8:30-10 p.m.  Close Embrace
Following the tradition of certain milongueros,
Brooke will have students dancing chest to chest, using sequences that work
on a crowded dance floor.  Int. Level.
Each workshop $20

Saturday, January 5
1-3 p.m. Sacadas How and when to use sacadas (without leaving any bruises!).
Sacadas forward and back for both leaders AND followers. Soft shoes
recommended.  Adv
3-5 p.m. Changes of Direction
Make your dance go whoosh! We'll explore changing the direction of the turn
by stretching it out and making it fluid, while taking into consideration
the line of dance. One of Brooke's favorite themes. Adv
$30/workshop or $50 for both with pre-registration

Sunday, January 6
1-3 p.m. Liquid Tango I - Intermediate
Old and new tango that flows from close to open embrace and back again.
Juxtaposing tension and release, control and escape, this is a medium for
fun, feeling and expression!
3-5 p.m. Liquid Tango II - Intermediate/Advanced
Continuation of Liquid Tango I with more complicated movement and sequences.
$30/workshop or $50 for both with pre-registration

Monday, January 7
7-8:30 p.m. Follower's Technique and Adornment II - Int./Adv.
More technique and adornments, including boleos, ganchos, saludos and how
they are applied in the dance. Brooke recommends all students take Technique
and Adornment  I as prerequisite.
8:30-10 p.m. Advanced Close Embrace
Following the tradition of certain milongueros, students will dance chest to
chest, focusing on feeling, rhythm, navigation and subtle adornment.
Preferred if  students  register in couples. Couples will work together 75%
of the time. Same sex okay.
