Hola Tangueros: I am posting this for Hector Zeballos. This Friday, February 1, Salon Recuerdo Milonga is proud to present a special workshop with Natalia Hills and Francisco Forquera, two of the bright young stars of the current production of "Forever Tango." Natalia began dancing tango at age 11 with her grandfather. She trained under the legendary Miguel Balmaceda (father of Julio) and Antonio Todaro. I first saw her perform in Buenos Aires in 1992, when she was only 17, and she was incredible then! She has performed with Juan Carlos Copes in "Tango Tango" and for the past seven years in "Forever Tango." Francisco, her new partner, began his dance career as a folkloric dancer, then became a professional Flamenco dancer while also studying tango, ballet, jazz and tap. Both Natalia and Francisco are dedicated to the social form of tango as much as performance tango, and they believe in teaching their students material that is useful for dancing in the milongas. This new pairing is an exciting one, and we think you'll enjoy their style and elegance. They will also honor us with a special exhibition during the milonga. The workshop will start at 8:30 p.m. and the milonga will follow from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. $27 per person for class and milonga; $15 per person for milonga only; free food and drinks and the BEST selection of tango, vals and milonga for your dancing pleasure. Location is Hollywood Dance Center, 817 N. Highland Ave., 1-1/2 blocks north of Melrose, in Los Angeles. Natalia and Francisco will also be teaching two workshops on Saturday, February 2 and again on Saturday, February 9. Classes on both days will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. and from 3-4:30 p.m. Saturday classes are $25 per person per class, or $45 for both sessions in one day or $80 for all four Saturday classes. Location for all four Saturday classes is Raul's Tango Garden, 18859 Strathern St. in Reseda. Natalia and Francisco are also available for private lessons.
