Introducing Tango Colectivo The first New Zealand Tango festival
Designed to bring the New Zealand Tango community together, the festival will be held on June 14,15 and 16, 2002 at Whakapapa Village, National Park. (Half way between New Zealand's two major Tango centres - Auckland and Wellington). This 3 day event will be comprised of dance workshops, music workshops - where musicians will bring their own instruments to share music and ideas, and of course a Tango ball in New Zealand's most magnificent colonial hotel, the Grand Chateau. Extra activities will include stretch yoga classes, bush walks, and soaking in the spas and saunas provided at the lodge. There will be a beginners program targeting people who live outside the main centres, so if you know anyone who has always been envious of your proximity to dance classes, this is their opportunity to get involved. Cost for the event will be between $160 and $190 per person (to be confirmed) and includes a timetable packed full of classes, extra activities and two nights of dancing at the Chateau. You will be able to begin booking as soon as the timetable is confirmed. Registration will begin at mid day on Friday the 14th of June, and the event will end with a milonga and a live performance from the musicians, finishing at 5.30 pm on Sunday the 16th of June. We have brokered a great deal for accommodation at the Skotel, which is an upmarket lodge, perched on the side of the mountain that can easily hold everyone. There are all types of rooms including bunk beds for $20 per night, up to hotel rooms and private chalets. You can cook your own food in the kitchens or eat at the in house restaurant at very reasonable prices. The chateau offers beautiful private rooms at $140 per night with our group discount, and serves a fantastic buffet dinner at $38 per head. (Booking information to come) We suggest you take a few extra days and make the most of everything the mountain has to offer, it may even be snowing!! We are very excited about including you in this event, which will enrich our dancing experience and create an environment where people who are passionate about tango dance and music can get together on an annual basis. Our goal for the future is to grow the event to include overseas teachers and participants. If you feel you have something to offer the conference please contact us by email, phone or letter. We are interested in Tango clothing and shoe businesses, Tango Music, tango sheet music, tango videos, books, history of tango ... All musicians interested in getting together to share music and jam with other musicians, please email me. We will provide you with practice room space and coordinate with other musicians and sheet music all free of charge. Please await further details, links to accommodation sights and our action packed timetable. Lets make this an event to remember!
