Dear Dancers, TANGO ARGENTINO proudly presents a special tango workshop in Seattle featuring Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa, Apr.26-28.
Julio and Corina are highly respected teachers in Buenos Aires. They are among the teachers of the 'milongueros' (social tango dancers.) Julio studied tango from his father, the legendary Miguel Balmaceda. Since 1991, Julio has taught tango at the most prestigious tango salons in Buenos Aires: Canning, Grisel, El Parakultural, Almagro, and La Galeria del tango. Corina started dancing at the age of 6. She graduated from the National Institute of Dance in Argentina. When she was 23, she dedicated herself to tango and learned the secrets of its culture by dancing with the best old milonguero. Julio and Corina met in 1996 and since then, they have been working together in Buenos Aires and give workshops to teach the essence of tango in different tango festivals in Europe, Asia, and the USA. As instructors, they are warm, down to earth, and funny. Julio & Corina's classes are clear, fun, informative, well thought out, and well presented. As dancers, their steps, figures, and posture can be characterized by 'elegant, gentle, and round.' Together, they transmit precision and beauty on all of their movements. As performers, they have performed with the famous Orchestra COLOR TANGO. In 1998, they joined the cast of the famous Broadway tango show FOREVER TANGO. Along with the workshops, there will be a special Saturday evening dance with live music by Seattle's tango band Tango Divino, recorded music by Tony Fan, and a tango show by Julio & Corina. Please check out the workshop link http://www.seattletango.com/workshop/workshop.htm for detailed descriptions of this event. For out of town dancers, there are some Seattle dancers happy to open up their homes for you to stay during the event, please e-mail us ASAP for housing information.
