A Puro Tango is proud to announce the addition of AURORA LUBIZ and JORGE FIRPO to our faculty for Tango Fireworks 2002, to be held June 28-July 6 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach, California. They will replace Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida who had to cancel due to changes in their touring schedule with Julio Iglesias. This is a very rare United States appearance for Aurora and Jorge. They are two of the most respected and popular teachers in Buenos Aires and have a large following there. They are also in great demand in Japan and all over Europe, where they tour much of each year. They are extremely exciting performers, and starred last year in Milena Plebs' production, "Romance De Barrio." Aurora's footwork is dazzling, and she has been called by no less than Miguel Zotto, "one of the best dancers in Buenos Aires." Jorge comes from a family with a long tradition in the tango, and his rhythm, musicality and creativity are really wonderful. Together, they are adept in several different styles of tango, from close embrace "club" style to fantasia and performance tango. I think you will be delighted by their classes and their performance. They join one of the most impressive faculties ever presented in a North American tango festival: MILENA PLEBS & EZEQUIEL FARFARO, dancer/ choreographer/producer/director and universally acknowledged as the most influential woman in the history of tango, and her dazzling partner, surely one of the fastest rising male stars in the tango world; CARLOS COPELLO & ALICIA MONTI, internationally acclaimed stars of "Forever Tango," "Tango Argentino," "Tango X 2" and "Una Noche de Tango." In addition to their reputation as brilliant stage performers, they are wonderful social dancers and generous teachers. Carlos is widely recognized as one of the best milongueros of his generation; JULIO BALMACEDA & CORINA DE LA ROSA, not only the most talented and respected of Buenos Aires' new generation of milongueros, but also daring and innovative, as teachers in great demand all over the world; NESTOR RAY & PATRICIA GARCIA, "The Fred Astaire of Tango" and his talented partner will share with us the essence of 1950s social tango, the rhythmic style variously known as "club," "Milonguero," "confiteria," or "close embrace"; DIEGO DI FALCO & CAROLINA ZOKALSKI, elegant, lyrical and creative, they bring to their dancing both the romanticism of traditional salon tango and the precision and technique of the new generation of professionals; BRIGITTA WINKLER, one of the most important teachers in the European tango community for over 15 years, she will teach one of her specialties, close embrace tango.
Also returning this year is the incredible COLOR TANGO ORCHESTRA, which will play for dancing on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6!
