Dear Tango friends, There will be a huge benefit milonga honoring one of the truly dedicated promoters and supporters of tango in So. California: Mark Celaya.
Mark has fallen severely ill over the last year and a half, and is slowly making a recovery. This tribute, in recognition of Mark's contributions to tango in our community and beyond, will bring together the diverse members of our large and growing tango family in the greater Los Angeles Area, including organizers, teachers and performers, and most importantly: All the "tangueros" of So. California. Mark has been involved with tango in Los Angeles for well over ten years, as an organizer, teacher, promoter and now as a successful supplier of tango music for most of North America. As if that was not all, and probably most important to him personally, he is a polished and dedicated dancer, and a highly knowledgeable connoisseur of tango music and its history. So, to toast his accomplishments, as well as helping him along with a little token of our appreciation, we are throwing a big tango party to celebrate our community, its growth, and a man who has been instrumental in making tango a strong and vibrant popular art form, accessible to everyone. The price is $25 and all proceeds will go to Mark's recovery. The benefit will take place at the popular Thursday "Milonga de Naifas" in Los Angeles, May 9th, starting at 8pm. There will be performances, live music, singers, drinks & hors d'oeuvres, and two DJ's.
