The Ambassador of Argentina, The National Building Museum, and QuinTango present Tango Festival 2002 on Sunday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the National Building Museum in Washington DC, 401 F Street NW, across from the Judiciary Square metro station on the Red Line. Join us if you can; this will be the last Tango Festival held in this extraordinary building. Featured artist and master bandoneonist Raul Jaurena will join QuinTango in a performance of such classics as Quejas de Bandoneon, Gallo Ciego and Piazzolla’s Verano Porteno. Argentine tango dancers Carina Losano & Pablo Fontana will present their dazzling versions of Danzarín and Canaro en Paris. A special focus on “Tango Along the Silk Road” will feature two classic 1950's tangos from Istanbul, Papatya and Kemanimla, arranged by Paul Zulik, former pianist with the Istanbul Radio Orchestra, and danced by the young Turkish tango dancer, Murat Erdemsel. The Festival will also include a showcase of local tango teachers and free dance lessons, followed by dancing in the Great Hall to the tango music of the bandoneon and guitar duo of Tito Castro and Pancho Navarro.
