Dance of the Heart and Aspen Tango are pleased to present, for Independence Week 2002, a series of Colorado workshops and milongas in Aspen, Boulder and Denver with Argentine Tango masters LUCIANA VALLE of Buenos Aires and ALEX KREBS of Portland, Oregon.
We have just now finished the arrangements - while time is short for out-of-towners, those of you who might find yourselves in our area will be warmly welcomed. Plan to stop by for some of the 11 classes, four milongas and multiple tango gatherings in the mountains and foothills of the Colorado Rockies. LUCIANA VALLE needs no introduction to the 125+ local tangueras y tangueros whose enthusiastic participation in her classes made her March visit to Colorado so memorable. A vibrant young master of the new generation of tango, her boundless energy and enthusiasm, her encyclopedic knowledge of tango traditions, combined with her penetrating technical insight and creative approach to tango has made her a favorite on the North American circuit. Her years of work with Gustavo Naveira, Fabian Salas and Chicho Frumboli in the "Nuevo Tango" movement provides her students with a keen awareness of all the possibilities that tango offers. ALEX KREBS is making his first teaching visit to Colorado, and it's a great pleasure to sponsor the first of what will no doubt be many more visits. He seems to enchant everyone he meets wherever he goes, as his far-flung teaching schedule (www.deeptango.com) will attest! Now ensconced in his own studio in Portland, his worldwide tango travels as an instructor, social dancer & performer give him a unique perspective of the contemporary tango scene. Experienced followers who have danced with him recall the experience with a special glint in their eyes...& encourage their favorite leaders to study with him at every opportunity! LUCIANA & ALEX have taught together in several North American cities to deeply enthusiastic & appreciative acclaim, & have performed together in Buenos Aires at Torquato Tasso in front of the luminaries of the tango world to thunderous encore-demanding applause. NUEVO TANGO, which will be emphasized in this workshop series, is not so much a style as it is a way of looking at tango, utilizing this unique & playful approach to liberate the dancer from style limitations, providing a coherent access to the fundamental structure of the dance in both open & close embrace.
