"EAU DE TAN GOGH" FRANCE, SEPTEMBER 16-25, 2003
(pronounce like "Van Gogh")
Your heady scent of the the romantic perfume "Eau de Tan Gogh" begins
in Paris. Almost everyone thinks of lovers when they think of Paris. Arguably
the world's most romantic and beautiful city, it is no wonder tangueros
visiting Buenos Aires remark "This is so much like Paris!"
We'll have the best of both worlds with three days in Paris, but then
this perfumed trip is even stronger, and leads you to the Dordogne at Chateau
St. Loup, for two days. With 12th century gardens, a large outside
woodfloored dance tent and another in the castle, complete with chandeliers
and fireplace, we will have an abundance of dance atmosphere and space! This
castle was the inspiration for the fairytale, PUSS AND BOOTS. Look up the
story, and you may see the castle! Dordogne is rich with forest, truffle and
mushroom country.
Then your nose and taste buds lead you to Sarlat-le-Caneda, a
beautifully preserved medieval market town. During our two days there, we
have another fabulous dance space available to us, in between journeys to
Eyzies-de-Tayac and the cave paintings, and more castles. Next we travel
through the Gorges de Tarn, some of the most stunning scenery in France. We
will go up through the Langued'Oc *region where the people have more of a
"Mediterranean attitude." Langued' Oc is a mysterious land where the mystic
Christian community of the Cathars lived in the 13th century. Persecuted by
the Inquisition, these Christians believed humans were fallen angels, and
named their faith the "Church of Love." They were obliterated by a Crusade,
but the passion of their beliefs and their mysteries remain in stark and
unforgettable stone bastions and towers.
Giddy with great wine and olfactory ostentatiousness, we move on to
Toulouse for two nights to dance with the Tango community there, and to take
a tour to Montsegur, through the villages and Cathar country south of
Toulouse. After experiencing the passion of the Cathars, and a night of the
conflagration of Tango, we take an early
morning high speed train back to Paris for a last night in the City of Light
before returning home.
Our trip is over, but the scent will remain in your memory forever.
