Workshop Venues: All Intermediate classes will be in the main ballroom of the Viscount Ballroom, 722 E Burnside--which has a new wood floor and by October there will be some additional remodeling. Beginner classes will now be in the mezzanine of the Viscount, and Advanced classes will be held in the new 1600 sq ft Ankeny Street Studio (SE corner of 9th and Ankeny--2 1/2 blocks from the Viscount). Studio A on the ground floor has been specifically reserved for private lessons. Milonga Venues: In general, milonga venues will be larger this year. Wednesday evening is at the Viscount, Thursday and Friday are at Norse Hall, 111 N 11th (5 blocks from the Viscount), and The Grande Tango Ball has been moved to Saturday evening at the beautiful historic Emerald Ballroom, 1410 SW Morrison (1.5 miles from the Viscount). The Sunday milonga will be a "Dinner Milonga" held back at the Viscount. For you late night dancers, as usual there will be "Sunrise milongas" both Saturday and Sunday. Locations TBA. Practicas: Each day (except Saturday) there will be a 1.5 hour supervised practica with many of that day's instructors available for individual help. These practicas are free to anyone taking a class on that day (admission is $10 otherwise). Nearby Hotels: The ThriftLodge, 949 E Burnside (503-234-8411) is 2 blocks from the Viscount and will give a $10 discount (about $50/night) if you mention that you are attending the TangoFest. The Travel Inn, 800 E Burnside (only 1 block away) has a new owner, and will be remodeled and renamed the Jupiter Hotel, http://www.jupiterhotel.com/ 530-230-9200. Discounts (as yet undetermined) will be given to TangoFest attendees. A night club with a small dance floor will be opening in the basement and we're hoping they might play some tango music. DJ's: Dan Boccia, Jo Ann Palubinskas, Robin Thomas, Steve Brown (we hope) et. al. Jo Ann will definitely play Friday evening, but we haven't scheduled the others yet. Orchestra: I haven't hired the orchestra yet for Saturday evening, but I'm leaning towards Tito Castro and Pancho Navarro from New York putting together a 5-6 piece orchestra, or Los Cosos del al Lao from B.A. who happen to be passing thru L.A. on a return engagement from Japan. I hesitate to say this, but if you have any opinions let me know (and please "Color Tango, Los Reyes del Tango etc are maybe for next year!) Thanks.... I look forward to seeing, schmoozing, eating, dancing, partying, etc etc in October...clay Clay: [email protected] Sue: [email protected] Phone: (206) 729-7268 Address: 1340 N 79th St Apt 101, Seattle, WA 98103 Web: www.claysdancestudio.com
