A Brasilian dance company W.A. Shows arrives on September 1 for a 3-month tour in China. Twenty dancers, five musicians and two singers form a show that includes Brazilian music and dance, latin music (salsa, cha cha) as well as Argentine tango and folklore.
Among the dancers in this company are Daniel Oviedo from Argentina and his partner Mariana Casagrande of Brazil, who performed recently at a Saturday afternoon milonga in Buenos Aires. It has been a long time since I've seen an exhibition I have really enjoyed watching. It wasn't their technical perfection or elegance which kept my attention; it was their creativity and musicality. They didn't do tricks to impress the audience. Their choreographies complemented the music. It was a treat to see this quality performance from such a young couple; Mariana is only 20. Daniel had no problem dancing on the extremely crowded floor of this milonga--he's equally comfortable dancing on stage or socially.
