Buenos Ayres: Tangos From Heaven and Hell is a multimedia tango
performance featuring live music by The Zvi Migdal Tango Ensemble,
choreography by renowned dancers Diego di Falco & Carolina Zokalski and
Cecilia Saia & Ronen Khayat, text and video imaging.
This exceptional concert casts Argentine Tango in a new light -- this
is not your grandparents' Tango show. The show takes audiences through
a series of vignettes to tell the story of Argentine Tango in a unique
format: through the thematic content of Tango lyrics and Argentine
texts by Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortazar and Juan Gelman. Themes
range from immigration, to dictatorship, to passion, to soccer. Buenos
Ayres presents the Tango in a full range of expression: from
traditional choreography and instrumentation to modern dance and the
sounds of the electric guitar. Zvi Migdal's relish for the bitterness
of Tango is old-fashioned, yet their attitude, charm and presence are
decidedly modern.
Based in New York, The Zvi Migdal Tango Ensemble has an innovative
interpretation of Argentine Tango, infusing the traditional sound of
Tango with jazz harmony and classical precision. The Zvi Migdal Tango
Ensemble is comprised of vocalist Pablo "The Pulpo" Pereyra, virtuoso
guitarists Adam Tully, Martin Moretto and Dan Lippel and double bassist
Pedro Giraudo. Pereyra and Tully recently performed two of their Tango
arrangements in concert at the Weill Recital Hall at New York's
Carnegie Hall.
