FOLKLORIC WORKSHOPS
Experience the flirtatious and fun social dances of Argentina. Chacarera is
a typical dance from the North of Argentina. It is a simple dance composed
by 5/8 beat. The basic dance consists of 3 half turns and 3 full turns.
Added to the dance is the Saraudeo (twice) and Zapateo (tap) on the footwork
of the man. Zamba is no doubt the Queen of Folkloric dance in Argentina. It
is a responsive creation of the dancers. The gentleman courts the female
partner, with the gentle movement of the handkerchief held in his hand. It
is believed to be descended from Zamacueca in Peru. For those who are game
- Malambo An individual dance of challenge for men, it is based on a
personal style, using figures of toes and heels. Often it is a
confrontation of two males, to show their abilities and skills. In 1871 a
Malambo lasted 7 hours, each man did 76 different figures with their feet.
