If you are within a half day's drive of Boston and go to only one Tango event in the next 6 months, make it tonight (Sat, 20 Sep) at the Tango Society of Boston's "La Gran Milonga" (VFW Mt. Auburn Post, 688 Huron Av, Cambridge).
If last night's sold-out performance at the Museum of Fine Arts was any indication (Sat night at "La Gran Milonga" will include a repeat of most of the performances from the MFA), it will be an incredible night of: - Dancing to live music by Pablo Aslan and Tito Castro of the New York Tango Trio and Claudio Ragazzi on Guitar. They were playing for a *listening* audience last night at the MFA and it was so danceable you wanted to get out of your seats. Tonight they will be playing for a *dancing* audience. - Nino Moran (formerly of Mariano Mores' orchestra) on vocals was spectacular. - Several dance Performances by Hector Falcon (Tango Buenos Aires) and Cecilia Saia (Forever Tango). By all rights, a night like this (plus dancing on a huge floor and food too) should cost $30 or more, but is a bargain $15 or $20 (depending on whether you are a member). Cancel your other plans and if you live within a day's drive, come to Boston (Cambridge, actually) for a very special night of dancing and world-class Tango performances. Check the Tango Society of Boston's web site at http://www.bostontango.org/ for details. Unsolicited review/recommendation by: Shahrukh Merchant (who was impressed by what he saw tonight at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) P.S. The Milonga is from 8:30 to midnight only (not 1:30 a.m. as in the past, owing to new restrictions by City of Cambridge) so don't come too fashionably late!
