Thursday, November 13th 8:30P-11:00P (featuring performance by Fabian Salas
and Carolina Del Rivero)
Concert & Milonga - $10; Danial Gomez guitar; Claudio Mendez piano; Bertram
Levy bandoneon
In 1980 Claudio Mendez founded the avant-garde tango group Nuevos Aires.
Astor Piazzolla was so impressed with the group that he gave them his
unpublished work 500 Motivaciones rather then premiering it himself.
Claudio's most notable association is with the Opus Cuatro, a men's vocal
quartet that has toured internationally for 35 years. Their latest CD Opus
Cuatro tangos features Claudio on Piano and won the 2002 Gardel Award.
Danial Gomez studied classical guitar from the age of 8 and has appeared
with many tango singers, in tango milongas and in guitar folkloric ensembles
in Buenos Aires. In addition to performing, he is an arranger, composer and
recording engineer. His recording Tangos de Aquellos is the benchmark for
solo guitar interpretation and performance of the tango. This year's
concerts will feature the beautiful duets of Gomez and Mendez as well as
trio arrangements with Bertram Levy. The three recently performed this
concert in Buenos Aires to a very enthusiastic audience. In addition to the
concerts, they will play for dances and workshops on the art of the tango
guitar and piano.
