Speaking of improvisation and syncopation, there is a new composer of Argentine tango music emerging from Japan: Nobuko Yasuda. Probably many of you have heard of her, but she is new to me.
It is really disgraceful the way she mixes jazz and Argentine tango. It's amazing that a demure, sweet looking lady like Nobuko Yasuda can jar your sensibilities with rocking piano riffs -- obviously improvised in the middle of a newly composed Argentine tango piece! Doesn't she have any respect for tradition? Wow! I love her music. Makes me want to cry. (Was just kidding with earlier comments.)
