Brian Dunn and Deborah Sclar of Dance of the Heart are very pleased to
announce TANGO SAFARI BERLIN! with Brigitta Winkler, June 18-27, 2004.
Share the tango traveler's experience with us in a world-class tango scene!

BERLIN: A World City
With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the parts of the city in the former East
Germany went through a long and painful rebuilding process. Berlin's new
city center was Europe's largest construction site for over ten years, as
huge new building projects arose from the former No Man's Land surrounding
the fallen Wall. With the recent completion of this massive effort, a
gleaming new Berlin again beckons to visitors to experience Germany's
old/new capital as a world city in a revitalized Central Europe.

BERLIN: A European Tango Capital
In 1982, visiting maestros Astor Piazzolla, Sexteto Mayor, Mosalini, and
Susana Rinaldi helped rekindle the Berlin tango scene from its pre-WWII
dormancy. Berlin's first postwar milongas were held in 1983, and the city
has supported a rich and vibrant tango scene ever since. Nightly milongas
and practicas, tango music venues, hosts of highly trained Berlin tango
teachers, and decades of visits from the best traveling tango master
teachers create a rich tango brew for Berliners and for the visitors who
come to share tangos with the excellent local dancers. Join us with
Brigitta Winkler, one of the founding figures of the contemporary German
tango scene, as we explore one of the world's great tango cities from a
tango dancer's perspective.

BRIGITTA WINKLER has been dancing, teaching, and performing tango for more
than twenty years. She was partnered with the renowned Argentine tango
performer and teacher Coco Diaz for years. She was a fellow student and
tango explorer with Gustavo Naveira in his own early explorations that led
to the genesis of the "Nuevo Tango" approach. With Angelika Fischer, she
co-founded TanzArt Studio in Berlin, where for many years she hosted group
classes, practicas, milongas and performances. She is a member of the
acclaimed all-woman tango performance troupe "Tango Mujer", with Angelika,
Rebecca Schulman, Valeria Solomonoff, Fabienne Bongard, and Sharna Fabiano.
Her innovative synthesis of tango with her background in Body-Mind Centering
and Authentic Movement lend a deep richness to her tango teaching. She is
acclaimed as a pioneering tango teacher in Europe, Argentina, Russia, and
throughout North America. She is a regular featured teacher at such events
as the Tango Festivals in Portland and Denver, the former LA Tango
Fireworks, and at many gatherings of her fans in cities around the globe.
With Deb & Brian, she recently offered a series of workshops with Mauricio
Castro in Colorado, and will be returning to join us in Berlin from the
Midnight Sun Tango Fest in Alaska.

BRIAN DUNN and DEBORAH SCLAR have been tango partners since 1998 and tango
teachers since 1999. Based in Boulder, Colorado, their experience in
working with Brigitta Winkler traces to the Bridge to the Tango Berlin tour
of 2000, where Brian was on staff under Brigitta's direction. Brian has
spent over a year in Germany, and is comfortably fluent in German (he once
rebuilt a 1951 BMW motorcycle using only German-language manuals!)

Brian and Deborah are veterans of the tango travel circuit, having visited
Buenos Aires four times, and partaken of the tango traveler experience in
Miami, New York, Chicago, Rome, Venice, London, Denmark, Los Angeles, and
Portland, culminating in leading tango tours to Buenos Aires in March and
April of 2003. Their own innovative approach to tango teaching draws
heavily from their work with Brigitta, from their frequent intensive
workshops with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, from co-producing workshops
with Luciana Valle, Tomas Howlin and Florencia Taccetti, and most recently
from exploring in depth the work of Mauricio Castro. Their tango approach
is synthesized with Deb's extensive background as an award-winning actress,
opera singer, acting coach and musician, and Brian's background as a
professional trainer, musician, singer/songwriter, and software
entrepreneur. This far-flung array of talent and experience finds
expression in their tango teaching, in their weekly performances in Boulder
as tango dancers and tango musicians, in their musical collaboration with
Dan Diaz as musicians in his Tango Camerata, in Brian's weekly role as a
Tango DJ in Denver and Boulder, in their role as producers of Colorado tango
events, milongas and performances, and in their increasingly frequent
invitations to offer workshops and performances in cities around the world.
