I am writing to this group to invite you to participate in a workshop
that Michael Walker will be giving here in the Phoenix Area, Saturday
and Sunday, September 11th and 12th, 2004. Michael is an outstanding
dancer and teacher. Those of you who know him already know this.
For those who don't, I am including a very little piece of his bio:
Michael Walker is best known as "A Teacher's Teacher." He has performed
with Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Bette Midler, Janis Joplin, and Tony
Bennett to mention a few. He has been featured in the movie, Silver, as
well as a national Pepsi commercial. Michael studied with Martha Graham
and the American Ballet Theatre. He has studied, taught, and performed
with, and is well known as, one of the most sought after Argentine
Tango Dance Masters!

We have tried to make the workshop as inexpensive as possible and as
filled with cool stuff as possible, so that we can encourage people to
come share in this Tango Adventure.
There will be 3 classes each day, 1 1/4 hours each. And there will be
a practica on Saturday night and a milonga on Sunday night and both of
these events will be **free** to anyone who purchases a package of 4 or
6 classes. The schedule of classes will be as follows:

We are also planning to ask Michael to do a review of each lesson which
we will video and then copy so that we can give a copy to everyone who
purchases a package of 4 or 6 classes.
People wanting to do the 4 class package will either do the two
beginning and the two intermediate classes or the two intermediate and
the two advanced classes.
Because we've never done this before and we need some way to figure out
how many people might come, we've included a discount for people who
will pre-register.
The price structure is:

Brand new to tango? 2 beginning classes, practica, and practice cd for

We think that the combination of 5 hours of classes with Michael, a
review video to take home and study, a practica, and a Milonga.

The workshop will be taking place at the DancEnergy, 2401 E. Baseline
Rd. in Gilbert. From US 60, exit on Gilbert Road.
There is an upgraded Super 8 motel just a mile from the studio. I have
talked with the manager and she has agreed to give us their lowest
rates possible. These are $42.28 plus tax for one or two people in one
bed and $44.98 plus tax for 2, 3 or 4 people in two beds. The address
is 1550 S. Gilbert Road in Mesa, Az. 85204 and it is located on the NW
corner of Gilbert Road and Hwy. 60 just behind the Texaco in the trees.

says that she will inform her staff that anyone who mentions the Tango
Workshop or David Liu's tango workshop and wants a room for any of the
dates, September 10, 11 and/or 12 will be able to get these rates but
that you do need to reserve ahead of time. This particular super 8 has
a heated outdoor pool and whirlpool, data ports and free local calls, a
continental breakfast every morning, free newspaper. And the manager
told me they'd be putting in new mattresses within the next couple of
weeks. I know that Southwest Airlines has very inexpensive rates from
most major cities as long as you book in advance.
