WindyCityTango, Inc. together with Tango Ardiente sponsors the annual return of Cecilia Gonzalez and the premier visit of Mario Consiglieri TOGETHER in Chicago - September 20 to 27, 2004
This promises to be the most exciting week of Argentine tango Chicago has experienced!!! Both Cecilia and Mario are closely associated with the styles of Fabian Salas, Gustavo Naveria, and Chicho Frumboli. Cecilia has delighted her students here for several years, but this will be the first time she has had a showcase partner in Chicago. Mario s amazing talent and technique will elevate the energy and creativity of the lessons. Cecilia and Mario will teach some classes individually and some as a team (the workshop and milonga schedule follows the bios below). Cecilia Gonzalez is internationally acknowledged as one of the most elegant dancers today. Dedicated instructor and lover of dance, she has partnered with a number of renowned tango dancers. Cecilia has toured the U.S. with Fabian Salas, other parts of U.S. and Europe with Chicho Frumboli, in addition to the time and energy spent with the triumverate" in Buenos Aires. With her exceptional skills as a dancer, Cecilia adds complete knowledge of Argentine tango to her personal warmth. Her classes are at the same time - amusing, strict and very detailed. Cecilia is one of the highest-rated Master Teachers at the COSMOTANGO. C.I.T.A. event five years in the row. Residing now in Paris, Cecilia blends authentic Argentine Tango with her original style. She is perhaps best noted for her technical expertise as well as graceful elegance in the salon as well as on the stage floor. Cecilia Gonzalez s Vision of Tango: I found myself immersed in tango the music and the dance, unique in the world, sharing simultaneously a large variation of dynamics and a deep communication between the couple dancing, as within the music. The eye cannot perceive the secret interior path that each dancer feels emerging full of emotions, giving a sense to the motion. This is, from my point of view, what makes tango magic and special. In my work, I try to incorporate my experiences. I invite you to study, practice and perform this dance with the desire to continue developing the most important heritage of the Argentinean culture. My idea is to investigate the possibilities of movement and expression that tango offers, always in correspondence to the music and in continuous improvisation, two of the most important and decisive elements of this dance. In order to be able to improvise, it is necessary to understand and analyze deeply the structure and the technique, so then we can feel free to relate with ourselves, with our partner, with the space, the music and the memories. Visit www.tangomotion.com for more info on Cecilia Gonzalez. Mario Consiglieri is recognized as a rising Argentine tango star. He has grown innovatively from his studies with most notably - Fabian Salas, Gustavo Naveria, and Chicho Frumboli. His unique style expresses his own creativity, musicality, and fluidity. Since 2002, based in Seattle, Mario has taught throughout the U.S. as well as in 2004 at C.I.T.A. in Buenos Aires. Mario brings his dance background in salsa and hip-hop to his development of Argentine tango, combined with an insight and knowledge of bio-mechanics, to the salon. Mario believes that the body can be used in many ways to reflect the different moods of the music. He investigates variations in the qualities of the movement and then applies his knowledge to paint on the dance floor. Phoebe & Leroy confirm that Mario is a dynamic dancer, charismatic performer and caring as well as giving instructor. Many a night well, after 3 a.m. I would sit in the Buenos Aires milongas, enthralled by watching Mario and Carolina (del Riverio Fabian s partner) joyfully experiment around the floor, reports Phoebe J. Grant. In Mario s words, With the evolution of tango music, the sophistication of concepts and musicalities, comes a more fluid, comfortable style of dance that has been recognized as different - when it is really just the amalgamation of all that is possible in dance. You see, you have tango mechanics, and you have dance mechanics. What we are doing these days is mixing the two up... adding a little flavor and spice to the other wise rigid form of dance know as Argentine Tango - plus we are young, we have to make the most use of our bodies while we can! Nuevotango is a name frequently used but seldom understood. In literal translation, the words mean "New Tango" (perhaps having something to do with the music composed by Astor Piazzolla). Today the word is used worldwide to describe a consciousness of dance. To schedule private lessons with Cecilia and/or Mario, or for more information on their workshops, contact Phoebe J.
