I was going home by taxi one evening when I noticed a large illuminated sign
on a building in my neighborhood--Complejo Tango. I was surprised that
there was a new tango place only five blocks from my apartment that I didn't
know about. I decided to investigate. I was delighted to learn that a new
place for tango was opening in a couple weeks.

I was welcomed by Gabriel Winter who gave me a personal tour of the complex.
The work on this 19th century conventillo began five years ago and was being
completed for the grand opening on October 7. Located at the corner of
Belgrano and Saavedra in the neighborhood of Balvanera, the Tango Complex on
the first and second floors houses a grand hall for dinner and tango show
for 160, studios for their tango school, and nine rooms for tango guests.

The theater is open nightly at 8:30pm for dinner followed by a tango show at
10:00pm. The show, under the artistic direction of Carlos Borquez, presents
a historical narration of the tango from its beginnings to the nuevo tango
of Piazzolla. Five musicians, three singers, and six dancers form the cast
for the 75-minute show with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems.

The walls are decorated with photos, posters and fileteados of tango
figures. The guest rooms are tastefully decorated, maintaining the 19th
century French style of the original house, and completely equipped with
air-conditioning and private bathrooms.

If you are coming to Buenos Aires for a total immersion in tango, Complejo
Tango is an option to consider. You can live in comfortable rooms, study
and practice in their studios, and enjoy dinner and a show--all under the
same roof. Photos of the entire complex can be viewed at their website:
www.complejotango.com.ar Write Gabriel Winter in English for futher
information.

Complejo Tango is within minutes by taxi to the best milongas of Buenos
Aires. The owner Roberto Pasmanter knows that location is important since
he goes to the milongas himself.
