The Mountain View Studio, is located on Mountain View Avenue in the heart of the arts colony (directions below). December 11^th is celebrated around the world as the International Day of Tango, in honor of the birthday of the venerated singer Carlos Gardel - what better day to dance the night away! Woodstock is a new and growing tango community, with a solid core of dedicated dancers. Woodstock Milonga's, which began last February, generally attract some of the best dancers of the region - from Albany to Poughkeepsie, the Berkshires to Northern New Jersey and NYC. Saturday's 8p class is taught by Dario Da Silva, one of the leading up and coming tangueros on the East Coast. Originally from Rosario, Argentina, Dario now lives in the Berkshires and performs and teaches throughout the Northeast. For the performance, he will be joined by Claire Vivo, a lovely French dancer who has been working with Dario for the past year. The music, by DJ Ilene, is a mix of classic Argentine tango with the top orchestras of the Golden Age, the forties and fifties, plus a lively dose of nuevo or neo-tango music, which is becoming popular even in some of the dance halls of Buenos Aires. Salsa and swing breaks are included. The Dec. 11^th Milonga will be the first to be held at the Mountain View Studio, a spacious, airy professional dance space with very large sprung wood floor, vaulted ceilings, mirrors and a great Woodstock feel! Take Rt. 28 west about 10 miles to Rt. 375. Make right onto 375 , drive three miles to end of 375.... Then turn left into Woodstock. Go up hill to Village Green, take right onto Rock City Road. Drive approx. 1/10 of a mile and make a left onto Mountain View Avenue (opposite the Woodstock Cemetery). Drive around the bend to the Mountain View Studio on your right. Ample free parking. From the North: Take NYS Thruway to Saugerties Exit 20. Take Rt. 212 west about 10 miles towards Woodstock. Go straight into Woodstock, up hill to Village Green. then as above, right onto Rock City Rd., left onto Mountain View Avenue. BUS: Adirondack Trailways Bus goes directly to Woodstock, within walking distance of Mountain View Studio. TRAIN: Amtrak from Penn Station to Rhinecliff, NY. Woodstock is across the Hudson River about a half hour away, so you will need to make lift arrangements beforehand.
