One of the most challenging aspects of organizing the Portland tango events has been finding a location for the Saturday Post Grande Ball Milonga. This year for the first time ever, we will be using the Oaks Park dance pavilion on Sat evening Feb 19 from midnight-6:00 AM. The park, along with its amusement rides, roller rink, and dance pavilion, is located on the banks of the Willamette River about 15 minutes south of downtown Portland. (We'll be providing free bus service from city center and from Norse Hall.) The park will soon be celebrating its 100 year anniversary. The pavilion has a classic 6000 sq ft maple dance floor typical of that era and there's free parking nearby. I think you're gonna love this location, and the milonga will be a smashing success!
Also new this year: * We've moved the dates of ValenTango to correspond to President's Day weekend so that Monday will be a holiday for many of you. * Although this event is for both singles and couples, the last two "Very Advanced" classes on Sunday are specifically for couples in that the usual suggested partner changing will not occur. * Friday evening's "Corazon de Tango" will have a classic tango DJ in the ballroom and an alternative music DJ in the upstairs Lodge Room (a 2-for-1 milonga!). * Patricia & Eva will teach a Chacarera class on Saturday afternoon. * Soda, water, juice, sandwiches, salads etc will be sold at Bossa Nova during the day. Below is a brief rundown of all activities. (For complete details and information on prices, see my web site at http://www.claysdancestudio.com/ValenTango05/ValenTango05.htm) 15 teachers, 4 classic evening milongas, 2 afternoon alternative milongas, 2 supervised practices, 1 dual classic/alternative evening milonga, 1 orchestra, 8 different Portland venues 2 all night milongas, and 7 DJs. Thanks...I look forward to seeing you and having you join us for another exciting Portland ValenTango event. Clay Nelson
