A huge protest/Milonga will be held this Saturday, 29 January 2005 at 5
pm, at the Obelisk in Buenos Aires, to protest against the increasingly
arbitrary continued closings of the Milongas. Just about everyone who
dances Tango in Buenos Aires who can possibly make it is likely to be
there. (It is the intention and desire of the organizers that traffic
NOT be blocked.)

The following message is from the Association of Milonga organizers
(English translation afterwards):

BUENOS AIRES WITHOUT TANGO
Without work, without culture and without regulations

In the presence of restrictions [on the continued operation of Milongas]
thrown out of proportion, the Association of Milonga Organizers invites
you to dance this Saturday January 29 at the obelisk, starting from 5:00 pm.

WE ASK:

a) For the reopening of the milongas in order to conform to the
principles of [financial] security, since they are the source of work of
thousands of people (waiters and waitresses, cooks, musicians, dancers,
taxi drivers, hotels, tourism, etc.)

b) For adequate regulations that protect this activity

c) For the preservation of the venues and the social bonds that the
encounter generates

d) That [they] not paralyze the expression of popular culture.
