Dear tango Friends; Four more weeks to the First Southern Tango Social, Atlanta April 8-10!!! These are the last developments:
Privates: All the teachers are available for privates when their schedule is open. We will name a person responsible to coordinate and accommodate the private classes to everybody's convenience. Brigitta, Tomas and Robert will be in Atlanta Thursday afternoon. Robin and Jennifer will arrive Friday. Also Christopher Nassopoulos, who volunteered to be in charge of the music Thursday night at Carpe Diem, has expressed his availability to teach privates. Please send me a message if you want to schedule your privates before getting to Atlanta. Student discount: We have decided to offer a student discount to buy individual workshops. Full time students with valid ID can take individual workshops for $15 each. No discount is offered for milongas or passes, but the final price of the passes will reflect the discount for individual workshops. Wine Tasting: A wide variety of Argentine wines has been secured to be offered at the Argentine Wine Tasting (Saturday April 9th, 8:30 PM). Also the Argentine consul in Atlanta will be present. We will also have live bandonesn music by Gerardo Pirez during the tasting (his music will be for sale after the tasting). Hotel: As you all know, all the events (classes and milongas) of the festival will take place at the Holiday Inn Select in downtown Decatur, located 6 miles from downtown Atlanta. It is a self-contained venue with a direct subway connection to the Atlanta airport and surrounded by local restaurants and shops. No rental car or taxis are needed. Completely renovated in 2000, the hotel offers a discount rate of $79 per night. The hotel discount rate has been extended until March 15th. Probably we will be able to maintain this rate after that date, but it will mostly depend on room availability. Please mention "Atlanta Tango event" when making your reservation by calling 404-371 0204. Details and directions at: http://www.atlantatangofestival.com/venue.html The only event that does not take place at the hotel is dinner at Carpe Diem Thursday night. Local dancers will offer rides from the hotel to the restaurant (0.75 miles if you feel like walking). Airfares: Most airlines just released their Spring Sale offers. Yesterday I saw really good prices from almost everywhere in the country to Atlanta. For those of you waiting for a good fare, this is the time to book your flight. Transportation: No rental car is needed if you are staying at the hotel. $1.75 will take you from the airport to the venue in a 25 minutes ride on MARTA train (www.itsmarta.com). People from the organization will be at the airport at certain times Thursday and Friday. Look for them, you might be lucky and catch a free ride to the hotel. If you are not staying at the hotel, I strongly recommend renting a car. Atlanta Public transportation does not cover the whole metro area and when it does, you need a combination of train and bus to go anywhere. That is why it is such great news to have a direct train link from the airport to the hotel. For people driving into town, directions to the hotel are available at: http://www.atlantatangofestival.com/directions.html see y'all soon. angel montero ([email protected]) alan forde ([email protected])
