Dear Friends,
QuinTango is appearing in concert on Sunday afternoon, 17 April, at 2:30 pm at Baltimore’s Garrett-Jacobs Mansion, perhaps the most distinctive of Baltimore's historic homes. The mansion, now known as The Engineers Club (http://www.esb.org/), is at 11 W. Mt. Vernon Place, Baltimore 21201. Presented by Concert Artists of Baltimore (http://www.cabalto.org/concerts/mansionschedule.html) as part of the Music in the Mansion Series, the concert will spotlight the Nuevo Tango of Astor Piazzolla - Libertango, Oblivion, Fuga y Misterio, Triunfal, Soledad, and Adios Nonino with our wonderful pianist Jeffery Watson performing the to-die-for opening cadenza. We have three beautiful Carlos Gardel tangos - el Dia Que Me Quieras, featuring our virtuoso cellist Jorge Espinoza; Por una Cabeza, the memorable tango from Scent of a Woman; and Mi Buenos Aires Querido. We’ll re-visit Buenos Aires’ Golden Age with Gallo Ciego, Los Mareados and Taquito Militar. It’s a program packed with a few surprises and lots of QuinTango favorites. Tickets and further information are available at (410) 625-3525. There is a group rate for 10 or more. We know QuinTango concerts leave you all wanting more - more music, a chance to dance, and a way to keep the tango vibes going. We couldn’t get you to Buenos Aires on 17 April (stay tuned for a way to join us in September), but we’ve found the perfect après-concert venue - Gardel’s, a restaurant and tango club at 29 S. Front Street, Baltimore ( http://www.gardels.com/events.asp). When you walk into this gorgeous 1840's style building, you’ll be getting one of the most fabulous tango experiences this side of the Rio de la Plata. Bring your concert ticket – it’s worth 10% off the price of dinner. You can hang out, eat, drink, dance, listen to the tango music (recorded), watch others dance, or learn to dance. There’s an intermediate tango lesson at 5:00 with Ann Sophie & Pablo ($10 for a lesson with these excellent teachers and dancers, but just watching is free of charge) and a milonga at 6:00 (no charge). Or you can just sit back and soak up the atmosphere while watching some of Baltimore/Washington’s best tango dancers over dinner or a drink. Save us a seat - we’re coming too! For those of you interested in a pre-concert activity, the Engineers Club offers a lovely brunch at 11:30 and 1:00 at the Mansion. Seasoned series attendees know to arrive early, “save their seats” and head for the buffet. Reservations through Concert Artists (410 625-3525). So mark Sunday, April 17 as Tango Day on your calendar. The opportunity to have brunch and hear a tango concert in the nineteenth-century Golden Age glamour of Baltimore’s foremost historic mansion and then go for tango dancing, drinks and dinner to Baltimore’s hottest new supper club may not come again in this century. Call all those friends who keep asking to be introduced to the world of tango, take advantage of the group rate, and spend Sunday the 17th with us. This is our last performance in this area this season - don’t miss it!

            See you in Baltimore,

            Joan

P.S. Tango attire is encouraged and will be welcome at the brunch and/or concert and Gardel’s; of course we love to see you no matter what you are wearing!
