Dear Tangueros, We would like to invite you to Memphis for an Argentine Tango event, June 4-5th : a weekend of Tango, with workshops, supervised Practicas and an evening Milonga.
This event is, we hope, more than a simple "event". Our aim is beyond getting a new turn or sacada. Our aim is to share our passion for Tango with all those who feel the same. This is why we would like to invite you. We would like to have the opportunity to know our Tango neighbors better. We would very much like to dance with you and talk with you, and share beautiful moments with you. Perhaps we could even make plans with you for future regional tango events, at our place or at your place. And perhaps, we could grow stronger together. For the beginning, please be our guests, let's meet here in Memphis. We all know what a "good connection" is in Tango. Let's take the connection to a higher level and get our Tango communities connected. Of course, it is not easy to take "risks;" it is not easy to disrupt our schedule in order to organize or to travel. But perhaps, one of the reasons we love Tango is precisely because we are not deterred by risks and challenges. "Come explore Argentine Tango with us". For the Saturday and Sunday workshop, the topics include: Foundations of Improvisation, Turns & Combinations with Turns, Vals - Technique and Musicality, Milonga - Technique and Musicality, Sacadas & Combinations w/Sacadas. At the end of classes on both days, a Supervised Practica is offered so that we will walk away with progress in our dancing. Saturday night we will do what we like to do most: in the warm atmosphere of a cozy restaurant, we will dance, sip a glass of wine, and get to know each other. DJ Jason Laughlin will play tandas of tangos, valses, milongas and some alternative tangos that will keep us on the dance floor. Our workshop instructors will be Gulden Ozen and Jason Laughlin of Tangophilia. We are excited that they found a time slot to join us, flying from NC. They are excellent teachers and dancers. They know how to make learning fun, and how to make the fun memorable. Please visit our websites ( www.memphistango.org and www.tangophilia.com) for all the details. If several out-of-town people are going to join us, we will explore the opportunity to get group rates for overnight accommodations at the French Quarter Hotel Suites (where we will have the Sat. milonga). Please let us know as soon as possible. If you would like to find out more about this particular event, please send an email to Georgeta ([email protected]) or call her at 901-528-1684 or 919-357-6886. With a warm embrace, Looking forward to dancing with you soon, Georgeta, Octavia, Pam, Margaret, Mariallan and all of the Memphis Argentine Tango Society
