MILONGA WITH TRASPIE (7:30-8:45 pm)

Traspie (syncopations) is fundamental to the dance of the Milonga. You
can hear it in the music, it is necessary to know it to navigate on a
crowded floor, and Milonga is just more fun with traspie. If you are
dancing Milonga as "Tango steps done faster," you are completely missing
out on what the dance has to offer! This class is open to all levels and
will cover a dozen or so Milonga figures with traspie, and the technique
to do them naturally. Open to all levels (concurrent registration in
Tango Fundamentals with Floorcraft recommended for those with no
previous Tango experience).

TANGO FUNDAMENTALS WITH FLOORCRAFT (8:45-10:00 pm)

All too often, Tango is taught as a set of disjointed figures, which
result in a "choppy" or repetitive look to the dance, or as a set of
fixed sequences, which takes away from the fundamentally improvisational
nature of the dance (and is useless on a crowded dance floor). This
Tango class will focus on the fundamental elements of Tango (salidas,
crusada, ochos, giros, boleos, etc.) while emphasizing the connection
and linking needed between the elements, so that your Tango looks more
like an elegant flow and less like a series of memorized figures.
Appropriate embellishments will be taught for the women. This class is
open to all levels. Beginners will be taught solid technique in the
fundamentals of tango. More advanced material will be presented to
intermediate dancers.

Price per 6-week session: $90 for Tango Society of Boston members ($110
others). The class is not available on a drop-in basis, but makeup is
available for those who unavoidably have to miss a session. Registration
confirmed upon receipt of payment (credit card via PayPal at
[email protected] or mail a cheque). Prompt registration
recommended owing to the small size of the class. Please see "Classes &
Registration" at http://www.tangofoundation.com/ for details.

About the instructor: Shahrukh is trained exclusively by top Tango
maestros from Buenos Aires and is among the longest-time Tango dancers
and teachers in the Boston area. He currently spends about half his time
in Buenos Aires, where he dances, trains and teaches. His specialties
are "Tango as Danced in Buenos Aires" and "Milonga with Traspie." His
classes are focussed on small groups where individual attention
(essential for properly learning Tango technique) is possible.
