Judy & Jon Margolis - August 26-28 ---------------------------------- "If you understand the music, you can dance the music. If you understand the language, you can dance the feeling." Judy & Jon Margolis just may be the most respected North American social and exhibition dancers in Buenos Aires. They have been living in Buenos Aires were they teach, perform, and facilitate tours. They will be in Pittsburgh to share with us their specialty: Close Embrace Buenos Aires Social Tango. They are known for the intensity of their dance and for their outstanding social dance style, which others have described as "bien en la pista" and filled with Argentine sentimiento (a thought, view or attitude based on feeling or emotion instead of reason). They are acclaimed for their clear teaching technique and individual attention to students. They believe that pasos are tools that help us learn technique which frees us to explore the deeper meaning of the dance. Judy & Jon are asked to perform often in Buenos Aires including at the milongas of Confiteria Ideal, El Trovador, Salon Dandi, Viejo Correo, Sin Rumbo & Nino Bien. They were invited to perform with 7 of the best milonguero couples in Buenos Aires for the 3rd anniversary of 'Lunes de Tango'. All events take place at the Church of the Redeemer, 5700 Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill. Dancing to different orchestras from the rhythmic sounds of DArienzo to the melodies of DiSarli to the intensity of Pugliese. ~ Saturday, August 27 ~ 1:00-1:30pm REGISTRATION & WARM-UP. 1:30-3:00pm 2. BUENOS AIRES SOCIAL TANGO I (All levels). Brush up on your technique with the first of a two-part class. Topics include melding with your partner, opening and closing the embrace, posture, walking like a porteqo, using the "third" body part to improve movement, codigos of the milonga. Intermediate and advanced dancers are encouraged to attend. 3:30-5:00pm 3. BUENOS AIRES SOCIAL TANGO II (All levels). Continuation of the above. Participation in Part I recommended. 8:00-9:30pm 4. A MINI MUSICAL ODYSSEY (All levels). Ever been in one of these situations - "I like that song, but I can't remember which orchestra/singer it is!"? Then join us for an entertaining and informative class on understanding the different orchestras and dancing to them ... well ... differently. Dance like a porteqo with intention and sentimiento (a thought, view or attitude based on feeling or emotion instead of reason). 3:30-5:00pm 6. GIROS CON SACADAS FOR CLOSE EMBRACE (Int/Adv). Turning with weight displacements in social tango. Proper womens technique in the molinete. Floorcraft.
