Dear friends,

As you know, the 1st International CINETANGO Festival (www.cinetango.com) will be held in Toronto, Canada during September 16-18, 2005. During this festival we will screen a total of 14 movies and hold two milongas.

Since not everyone subscribes to the Tango-A list, I am requesting you to send the news about this unique festival to members in your community who are on your email list. It will help us get our message across not only to the dancers but also to any film-makers and media artists among us who might be interested in creating any projects for this festival in the future.

A brief introduction of the movies follows:

Tango Salon (La Confiteria Ideal)
A documentary in Spanish with English subtitles by Jana Bokova _ Argentina & United Kingdom 2003 _ 69 min Tangueros and tangueras - old milongueros, dancers, teachers, foreigners and stars from 20 to 80 - share their stories of love, family, nationality and more. A celebration of the tango's weaving of the political and the aesthetic.

I Don't Know What Your Eyes Have Done To Me
A documentary in Spanish with English subtitles by Lorena Muñoz & Sergio Wolf _ Argentina 2003 _ 64 min Argentine singer and tango legend Ada Falcón disappeared without a trace in 1942, at the height of her career. Sixty years later, this unique documentary styled like a classic thriller traces the life of the enigmatic performer.

Blue Tango in Buenos Aires
A documentary in German with English subtitles by Alexandra Prusa _ Switzerland 2004 _ 70 min Exploring heritage and tradition with modern filmmaking techniques and a resolutely contemporary spirit, Blue Tango in Buenos Aires offers enthusiasts and newcomers an intimate look at the tango's unique symbiosis of passion and nostalgia.

Global Tango
A documentary by Marta Noemí Bautís _ Argentina 2004 _ 53 min A collage of personal memories and performances tells the story of Argentineans displaced by the country's latest economic crisis.

Tango Illusions
A documentary in Spanish with English subtitles by Joshua Dylan Mellars _ USA/Agentina 2005 _ 23 min Three Argentine generations face difficult times together: thousands march the avenues of Buenos Aires while milongueros dance to forget. Wandering the steamy dance halls and sweltering streets of Buenos Aires, Tango Illusions explores the hearts, minds and souls of the porteños through a dreamlike collage of tango, chaos and existentialism.

Black Flowers
A dramatic film by Bettina Broglia _ Argentina 2003 _ 30 min A dark, brooding tale of a man coming to grips with childhood demons after a chance encounter alerts him to the whereabouts of the old dancer responsible for his mother's murder. Tense moments and much tango culminate in a provocative confrontation.

Vertical Desire ~ Tango
A documentary by Christopher Valley Ban _ Canada _ 48 min A glimpse into the world of Argentine Tango - as music, art, and philosophy - through the dreams of Marina Palmer, a New Yorker who left behind her life and career to become a professional dancer.

Tango Con Fusion
A documentary by Auriel _ USA 2005 _ 21 min It used to 'take two to tango', but the women of Tango Con*Fusión defy tradition, bending the dance's gendered customs by blurring the line between leader and follower.

Dance the Gender
A documentary in German with English subtitles by Gabriele Sophia Börges & Sonja Schultz _ Germany 1999 _ 77 min Until a short time ago, the tango world appeared to be in perfect order: rapt, lascivious women lay in the arms of strong machos. But these classical roles represent a challenge to the curious, and suddenly some women only want to dance with other women, while some men secretly teach each others how to be led.

Thanks and regards,
