The 2nd Annual Close Embrace Tango Weekend is coming up next weekend (Fri
9/30 - Sun 10/2) at the Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W Stoughton, Urbana IL.

This weekend will be an immersion in the close embrace style of tango that is
danced in the milongas of Buenos Aires. Experienced and highly regarded
instructors Tom Stermitz & Mel Quiat (Denver) and Ramu Pyreddy &
Heather Whitehead
(Ann Arbor) are bringing the spirit of their successful tango communities to
Champaign-Urbana, offering simultaneous workshops are all levels Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday. Tom & Ramu will also be DJs for the milongas on Friday and
Saturday nights.

This weekend is not only a excellent learning experience, but the mixture of
dancers from around the Midwest provides a very nice relaxed and friendly
social environment in a low stress college community (easy to get around, find
parking, inexpensive restaurants). In addition to the milongas on Friday and
Saturday, there is a brown bag lunch (with Starbuck's coffee
available) on Sunday
in conjunction with Ramu Pyreddy's multimedia presentation on musicality and
dancing to different orquestras, as well as a Chinese buffet dinner on Sunday
after the workshops to provide additional opportunities for socializing.

Schedule details are available on our website: http://www.centraltango.com/

Numerous people have asked about what workshops they should take. There is a
Beginner Track (B) and an Intermediate/Advanced track (A). Both progress in
difficulty over the course of the weekend.

- If you have not danced tango in close embrace before, you should probably
take track B.

- Track A assumes at least 20 hrs of instruction and 3 months experience
dancing tango in close embrace for most workshops. (This becomes more
important as
the weekend progresses.)

=> The exception would be someone who has an advanced vocabulary and good
technique in salon style (open embrace), probably at least 2 years
experience and
50 hrs instruction in this style. In this case, take Tom's introduction to
close embrace and musicality on Friday evening (this is really important to
understand the close embrace style) and then try Track A on Saturday.
If it is too
difficult, you can switch to Track B.

- If you've had a little bit of close embrace and feel comfortable with the
basics (including the musicality), you may start track A on Friday, recognizing
it may be a better learning experience to switch to track B somewhere along
the way.

Note: Those who purchase the highly discounted Beginner Pass (5 workshops for
$60, $40 for students) will only be admitted to Track B workshops. (You may
substitute the Track A workshop Friday evening with the Beginner Pass).

BONUS: A 6th workshop - Ramu's Sunday Noon presentation / workshop on
"Musicality: Dancing to Different Orquestras" has been added as a
bonus for those
purchasing the Beginner Pass.

REGISTRATION: Please send in your registration ASAP. Discounts for multiple
workshops are available only to those whose registrations are received by
Thursday Sept 29. Early registration not only saves you money, but it
saves time at
the registration desk. Last year the first workshop started 45 minutes late
due to long registration lines.
- If you do register at the workshops, show up at least 15 minutes before the
start of the workshop.

PRIVATE LESSONS: There are still a limited number of private lesson slots
available with Tom & Mel or Ramu & Heather Sunday evening, or with Tom
on Monday.
If interested, contact us immediately to claim your time.

HOUSING: If you need lodging in the home of a Champaign-Urbana tanguero,
notify us immediately. We are in the process of allocating slots and
these will be
filled in the order in which registrations are received.

Get ready for the big tango weekend. Last year was a blast and this year
promises to rock even more.

See you next weekend.
