The Tango Society of Central Illinois is please to announce that we
will be hosting workshops and milongas with Alex Krebs from Portland,
OR as guest instructor and DJ, during the weekend of March 10-12,
2006. All activities will be at the Phillips Recreation Center, 505
West Stoughton, Urbana. Alex's workshops will focus on the musicality
of tango, milonga, and vals. There will also be an introduction to
tango in close embrace workshop. Details will be available soon.

Champaign-Urbana IL is becoming known as a focal point for close
embrace tango in the Midwest. In the last year we have had the
following visiting instructors - Robert Hauk, Tom Stermitz, Ramu
Pyreddy, and Brigitta Winkler. We teach milonguero style tango
locally, so there are many dancers to mingle with at the milongas.

As the home of the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana is a
diverse friendly town, and this is reflected in our large tango
community. Lodging and restaurants are inexpensive, making this a
desirable travel destination. Traffic is light and free parking is
plentiful. Our tango weekends attract numerous dancers from around the
Midwest and sometimes beyond. If you haven't visited us, you should
and you will enjoy a positive tango experience.

A weekend with Alex Krebs is guaranteed to be exciting. Alex is well
known as an excellent and fun instructor. In case you haven't met Alex
previously, here's some info on him:

ABOUT ALEX

Alex teaches tango for the social dance floor. He emphasizes the
improvisational nature of tango, developed through clear communication
between leader and follower. His speciality is musical interpretation
of the dance, and he is well known for his creativity in this area.
His knowledge of tango as a dance and musical art form has been
developed through numerous extended visits to Buenos Aires.

Alex's workshops are a delightful mixture of fun and learning. Dancers
go away with a new musical bag of tricks to spice up their dance,
built upon a solid framework of connection with the musical core of
tango.

Alex is a regular instructor at the annual milonguero tango festivals
in Denver, as well as at other festivals and tango weekends throughout
the US. He is unique among American tango instructors in having taught
extensively in Europe. In fact, Alex has taught, performed, and DJed
in over 40 cities in 9 countries. He often teaches and performs with
native Argentines Luciana Valle and Florencia Taccetti. In addition to
dancing and teaching tango, he plays the bandoneon, and with his
tango group "Conjunto Berretin", has performed throughout the West
Coast and has released several tango CDs. Tango Berretin, Alex's
studio in Portland, Oregon, is renowned for both its classes and its
milongas, and is a popular destination for dancers from Alaska to the
east coast.
