Come to Kansas City for a weekend of art, culture, workshops, music, and great dancing!
We have a vibrant tradition in KC of "First Friday" openings in contemporary art galleries of the crossroads art district downtown. The event draws a large and diverse crowd of art lovers, socialites, and other soon-to-be-tango-addicts. In an effort to offer opportunities for our neighbors to come enjoy tango in KC, and to engage this thriving cultural scene we are starting a tradition of all night milongas to intersect with the art opening weekends. The first Tango Crossroads weekend will be March 3-5. We'll begin friday, March 3 with a little hit-and-run tango in the gallery district. Spreading flyers and tango fever followed by a Gallery Milonga in the district. Afterwards we will either host a social get together or some after-hours dancing (TBA). Saturday is a full day of tango goodness. There will be 2 workshops with Korey and Mila for intermediate and advanced dancers 2pm Lines and Circles (advanced concepts for creative dancing) 3:45pm Small and Delicious (tasty tango appetizers for the social dance floor); a dinner in Westport; a free intro tango class at 9pm; and all-night dancing from 10pm with Live Music!!!! Sunday is open for lessons, shopping, and relaxing. We have an evening milonga with a class at 7 and dancing from 8pm. Where a rose, be in the gallery by 8:15 (in the north gallery space - to the right from the front door, dispersed through the crowd), A tango will start playing and we'll find partners and dance. At the end we'll go back to our incognito gallery going lives, perhaps distributing a few invitations for the friday dance... 8:30-9:00 hit+run tango in the crossroads, details TBA 9:00 Gallery Milonga at the Arts Incubator (115 W. 18th Street, 3rd floor) Saturday (events at Morton Hall - Westport Road and Baltimore) 2:PM Workshop with Korey & Mila "Lines and Circles" (advanced concepts for creative dancing) 3:45 PM Workshop with Korey & Mila "Small and Delicious" (tasty moves for milonga and tango) 6PM Dinner Break - perhaps group dining in the westport neighborhood 9PM Free Intro Tango Class 10 PM All Night Dancing featuring Live Music with members of Tango Lorca and special musical guests.
