  Instructors and Djs

  Susana Miller (Argentina)
Susana Miller is the most prominent teacher in the world of the milonguero
style of tango or what Argentines call apilado. This style is danced in the
crowded clubs of central Buenos Aires. It is strictly a social style that
emphasizes musicality and the connection between partners. Susana has
researched and studied the dancing of the older milongueros, each of whom has
created their unique style of tango. She has been able to decipher their
distinct vocablularies and choreographic combinations, and is gifted in her
ability to convey these to students.

Susana encourages students to employ more rhythm in their dance, to discover
their own dance vocabularies, and to learn how to shape and shrink these in
space. For women, she encourages active following, in which the woman
interprets the messages that the leaders body and the spirit are sending.
Clarin, the major Buenos Aires daily paper, called her one of the four most
important influences on contemporary tango, along with Miguel Angel Zotto,
Gustavo Naveira and Gerardo Portalea.

Susana is a native of Buenos Aires and has been dancing and teaching tango
since the late 1980s revival of social tango. She founded and operates her own
tango academy in Buenos Aires, and is the owner of one of Buenos Aires most
popular tango club, El Beso. She has made annual teaching tours to the United
States and Europe since 1994. She will facilitate students improvement of
posture, axis, grounding, breathing, balance and sensitivity to the lead and
follow roles. She aims to encourage dancers to develop their own unique
improvisational styles through knowledge of the music, space and body. Her
classes will emphasize step quality and rhythm. Rather than predetermined
patterns, she will impart a choreographic vocabulary that allows dancers to
creatively shape their own language.

  Maria Plazaola (Argentina)

Maria Plazaola is one of the best young female dancers on the world circuit.
Maria began to dance tango with Rodolfo and Gloria Dinzel in 1993. She
continued dancing in the milongas of Buenos Aires with the best milongueros
from whom she learns everything that she teaches.

Since 2000 she has worked jointly with Susana Miller with whom she owns El
Beso in Buenos Aires. She danced professionally with Carlos Gavito from March
2002. With Gavito she participated and performed in numerous international
festivals and tours in England, Spain, France, Italy, Denmark, Russia, Japan,
Holland, Sweden and Switzerland.

Marias teaching is recognized for contributing as much to the man as to
the woman the necessary resources to dance tango on the dance floors of
Buenos Aires. She rescues the choreographies that are carried out intuitively
by the milongueros as determined by the space and the music.

Her movements are calm, pure and soft. She gives herself away to the music
and her partner and her dancing is graceful and ethereal. In the workshops she
pays special attention to the female dancers, helping them to enrich the
intimacy of the tango embrace.

  Robert Hauk (Portland)

Robert Hauk is a nationally renowned tango teacher and DJ, who has been
dancing and teaching tango for nearly a decade. His specialty is apilado or
milonguero style, in which he has achieved an extraordinary level of skill
sufficient even to win the praise of Buenos Aires toughest judges milongueros
themselves. His ability to communicate the music and the emotion has made him a
highly sought after dance partner at milongas across the country.

Robert has been dancing and teaching the Milonguero Style for eight years
since he met his main teacher Susana Miller. He has spent significant time in
Buenos Aires dancing among the older dancers of this style, learning their way
of dancing tango. He has also spent years learning about the music and is a
highly regarded DJ for tango dances. He has been a teacher and a DJ at many
festivals around the country.

Roberts popularity as an instructor at tango festivals is a result of his
practical insight and straight-forward teaching that makes milonguero style
tango readily accessible students. His skillful techniques quickly empower
students with the feel of connected social dancing. As a result, his teaching
has been influential and has engendered tango community growth in Portland and
other cities across the United States.

  Ramu Pyreddy (Ann Arbor)
Ramu Pyreddy founded the Argentine Tango Club at the University of Michigan,
Ann Arbor a community well known for excellent social dancing skills where
he actively teaches, organizes, DJs and dances. He has become one of the most
knowledgeable and sought after tango DJs in North America and is a featured DJ
at most tango festivals in the United States. He teaches tango for the social
