Advance Registration Deadline: Wed Feb 7 Prepare for a weekend (Feb 9-11) of delectable tango in close embrace in Urbana IL, led by Alicia Pons from Buenos Aires and Robert Hauk from Portland OR, expert instructors and dancers of the milonguero style of tango. This weekend will focus on the 'Inner Tango' of communication between man and woman, the conversation of lead and follow and connection that is characteristic of the milongas of Buenos Aires. Your tango will improve, and so may your partnership. This may be essential preparation for the upcoming Valentine's Day.
There will be milongas Friday and Saturday night and workshops Friday through Sunday to focus you on what makes tango unique, as a special dance of close connection of man and woman with each other and with the music. As a special treat, Alicia and Robert will together offer their perspectives on the tango partnership, in their co-taught Sunday (3 hr) workshop "Tango for the Woman's Enjoyment: Leader and Follower Interaction". A man dances tango for the woman, doesn't he? And the woman provides her own input into the partnership, doesn't she? Although you do not have to enroll with a partner for this workshop, in order to assure gender parity, we are requiring advance registration, limiting enrollment to 20 couples, and giving registration priority to men and women enrolling together (whatever relationship you have together outside the workshop is your own private business). [If you are enrolling with a partner but paying separately, name your partner on your registration form.] In addition to securing a place in the Sunday workshop, advance enrollment carries other benefits, including discounts (e.g., $100 for Weekend Pass, $60 for students, subtract $10 if traveling > 100 mi.), priority for private lessons, as well as not having to wait in line at registration. Registrations are already coming in from all around the Midwest, but we want to remind you that the deadline for receipt of advance registration is only a little over one week away - Wed Feb 7. For dancers new to the milonguero style tango, there is a special 'Milonguero Training Pass' ($60, $40 students). It includes a 2 hr 'Intensive Introduction to Tango in Close Embrace' workshop Friday evening with Tango Society of Central Illinois instructors Ron Weigel & Susana Vazquez Weigel and a 3 hr 'Core of Milonguero Tango' workshop on Saturday afternoon with Robert Hauk, plus the Friday and Saturday night milongas. Dancers with basic training (> 6 hr) in close embrace tango may substitute the "Milonguero Tango Technique" classes with Alicia (for women) and Robert (for men) Friday evening, and still benefit from Robert's Saturday afternoon workshop aimed at dancers who know tango, but feel the need to work on the connecting the foundations of the milonguero style tango repertoire and technique in order to be comfortable on the crowded dance floor. Details of the Milonguero Tango Weekend, as well as REGISTRATION FORMS, are available on our web page: http://www.centraltango.com/TangoInstruction/AliciaRobertWorkshopsFeb07.htm All events are at the Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W Stoughton, Urbana, which has modern dance facilities. There is ample free parking adjacent to the event site. There are also numerous affordable hotels and restaurants within 5-10 minutes of the event site. Housing with local dancers may also be available upon request, with priority given to students and those registering for the Weekend Pass. We look forward to seeing you in Urbana Feb 9-11. Get ready to meet a friendly tango community affiliated with the University of Illinois, as well as numerous dancers from around the Midwest who repeatedly attend our tango weekends. See why they keep on coming back. See why Alicia and Robert attract so many dancers wherever they go. Ron Weigel & Susana Vazquez Weigel Tango Society of Central Illinois Urbana IL
