ATTEMPTING TO PLUG UP THE HOLES IN THE MILONGA SCHEDULE WITH A FEW NEW VENUES FOR NYC FOR THE SERIOUS DANCER
I have noticed that, while there are may be 19 to 24 terrific milongas per any 7-day-week in NYC, with all except one taking place in Manhattan itself plus 6-8 practicas and several special workshops filling in the rest of the Saturdays and Sundays and some afternoons, there is nothing much scheduled 2 AM to 7AM. Many friends have complained endlessly about the ridiculous lack of options for very late/very early dances. After 7 AM when so many must get off to work, it is fairly useless to program milongas. But we might do something good, creative, humane, and very needed for the many who feel at loose-ends in these specific hours. So starting in May friends and I are organizing a series of late-late night or early-early morning milongas to take up the slack for serious dancers. These will just be dancing, with no performances or classes offered. See scheduled listings below (so far). At the very bottom see addresses for all venues. Most have a $10 admission, 2 are free-of-charge with sponsors. Starting in May--Most beginning at 2 AM. After monthly Sat night All-nighter will start at 6 and continue to brunch time. Sunday night after my own, Esmeralda's, plus Monday's and Friday's, the late-late night milonga starts at 1:30 for a smoother transition. Late-night dining and brunch (very cheap and very good) available at all listed. Mon. Milonga Sin Sonar Tue. Milonga Milonga Sin Dormir (2 rooms-- one for nuevo) Wed La Milonga Despues La Programa Jay Leno Thurs Milonga de Recesion (also 2 rooms, one for practice) Fri Milonga Disocupado (free, sponsored by Ambien) Sat. Milonga Despues de La Ultima Milonga (free, sponsored by Xanax) Sun Milonga Sonambula Addresses below: APRIL FOOLS! BUT maybe this schedule is getting to be more like BsAs. Apologies if you are in a country which does not "celebrate" April Fools' day.
