Chicago's Tango powerhouse, ARTango Center, is proud to present a Women's Tango technique weekend with renowned dancer and teacher, Rachel Greenberg on the weekend of March 6-8, 2009. As you may remember, Rachel visited us with Pablo Veron for workshops last summer. We are excited to have her in Chicago again. We will accept registrations in advance, as there is limited space. Workshops are open to anyone who wants to learn how to follow. All activities will be held at the ARTango Center. Here are details of the weekend activities: Location: ARTango Center 4011 N Ravenswood Ave, Suite 103 Chicago, IL 60613 Workshop description: The objective of this course is to improve the follower's technique, providing tools and information which are specific to each follower. Rachel will examine and explain how you can feel comfortable and be confident with your dance. She will help the students achieve presence, elegance and sensuality; improve their sensitivity and be more responsive to a lead. During the course we will work on techniques of the dance from the point of view of a follower. The three workshops are built progressively; therefore it is advised that participants register for the entire set. This course is suitable for all levels of dancers. Workshop titles and schedule for the entire weekend: Friday, 6 March 2009: Milonga: 10:00 PM – 3:00 AM DJ: El Turco Saturday, 7 March 2009: Part I – 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM (2 hours) - How to reach an elegant and comfortable posture - Finding your axis, balance and center of gravity - Looseness and relaxation of the legs – Disassociation - Footwork - The art of walking Part II – 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM (2 hours) - Technique of ochos in different directions - Dissociation and pivot - Boleos - technique of back and front boleos, responding to dynamic lead - Turns - "Giro/molinette" – technique and rhythm Sunday, 8 March 2009: Third part – 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM (2 hours) Embellishments: Explanation of different adornos for different moments. The 'pausa', rhythmic music, rulo, punteo, lapiz and more. We will cover not only how but also where and when, how to dance the silence and musical interpretation of adornos. Prices: Entire weekend package consists of three workshops of two hours each and the price is $100. Two workshops can be purchased together for $65. The student price for the entire package is $80. The discount applies to all full time students, post-docs and medical residents. A valid student ID must be presented at the workshop.
