A "collective of composers, singers and artists," Bajofondo is part of the movement popularizing tango into mainstream World Music. They blend acoustic tango and electronic music in an evolving genre known as "Electrotango" or "Tango Fusion." Bajofondo appeals to more than tango lovers, using innovative forms of DNB, house music, chill out and trip-hop. Their latest album, Mar Dulce, is a mix of Latin Alternative and contemporary music of the Río de la Plata at the border of Argentina and Uruguay. Gustavo A. Santaolalla is the prime mover behind Bajofondo. Santaolalla has produced albums for the films Amores Perros, 21 Grams and The Motorcycle Diaries. Santaolalla received a 2006 Academy Award for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original Score) for Brokeback Mountain as well as a 2006 Golden Globe Award (Best Original Song). In 2007, he received his second Academy Award for the film score to Babel. Gustavo dedicated the award to his father and to his country Argentina.
