Gustavo Naveira was an integral part of the resurgence of tango in Buenos Aires starting in the mid-1980's. As one of the most successful and well-known teachers of that era, even in his early years, he was devoted to the late-night Buenos Aires Milonga culture, studying it carefully while gradually earning the respect and even the deep friendship of many of the veteran tango dancers of those milongas. Some of those veterans had pioneered a way of dancing that earned them the nickname "petiteros", because of the particular way they tended to employ space and rhythm in their tango. These veteran dancers eventually came to be known by others as "milongueros", although the name started out as a teasing joke they played on each other and on themselves. In his early years, Gustavo rapidly became a fixture on the Buenos Aires milonga scene, social dancing virtually every night for fifteen years. In the current stage of his tango career, with his magnificently regal partner Giselle Anne, he forms with her the premier dancing and teaching partnership of the new tango millennium. Their influence is truly global, and has inspired countless tango aficionados to sing their praises in seminars and workshops around the world. We in Boulder are amazingly fortunate to have this opportunity to learn from the world's best about the history, the feeling, the technique and the sensibility of social tango "the way they dance in Buenos Aires" - from a truly "eyewitness" account! Now is YOUR chance to dance and learn in the company of these magnificent dancers and teachers! Let their warmth, clarity, insight and beautiful technique bring YOUR social tango to its next level! All events will be held in the spacious new "Sodal Studio" at Boulder's Avalon Ballroom, 6185 Arapahoe Avenue. PARTNER RECOMMENDED, BUT *NOT* REQUIRED! We will call for rotation in class for those who wish to rotate among partners, OR you can freely choose to remain with your partner of mutual choice. We may eventually restrict registration of women or of men based on our ongoing attempts to maintain gender balance. We will have some trained staff members in the rotation who are able to dance either role. Register early for your best chance to attend all workshops! Payment accepted in cash or checks at the door, or online via PayPal at http://www.danceoftheheart.com/CTE2009Main.htm. All workshops are $30, with a 20% discount (i.e., $24) for students with ID. An all-class pass covering all four workshops is $100, or $80 for students with an ID. PayPal fees are added on for credit card purchases online. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us by return email, or by calling 303-938-0716. See you in September!
