Graceful, informed, and playful, she is an extremely musical dancer and is passionate about her love of music from the golden age of Argentine Tango. Her love for the music can clearly be heard when she DJ's and is most likely dancing by herself behind the DJ table. She began teaching in Reno, Nevada where she studied and taught with Camilo O'Kuingthttons. She then continued her studies with J Abling from Portland, OR. Her travels extend all the way from Canada to all over the United States. Kyla Mares’s passion for tango music has infused her dancing, teaching, and DJing with a rare sensitivity to expression – and has even led her to start studying the bandoneon in order to broaden her understanding of the dance. A playful and versatile leader and follower, Kyla dances out of a deep connection to her partner and the music, and moves fluidly through a wide range of styles. As a teacher, she grounds tango in clear fundamentals of movement and musicality for beginners and helps more experienced dancers move with greater flair and expressiveness. With Robin Thomas, she helped nurture young tango communities at Princeton, Columbia and Yale and also taught at the well-established tango program at Dance Manhattan. Now living in Los Angeles, Kyla hopes to continue to nurture the tango community by teaching a new generation of dancers, while also challenging the seasoned ones. Kyla can be reached by email at [email protected] or you can watch her on youtube For more information Contact Burak at 312.451.4068
