In what has now become the Boston-area Tango event of the year, Anne Atheling, beloved tanguera, is celebrating her 81st birthday, on Sunday, 8th May 2011.

"81 is the new 18," her slogan for the party, pretty much sums up her attitude towards dancing, and life in general for that matter! Anne is generously hosting a birthday milonga in the beautiful and spacious Hawkins Hall at Springstep, Medford, a few minutes from Boston, and has invited ALL tango dancers and well-wishers (yes, from anywhere, and whether or not you know her).

There is no admission charge for the event, and Anne has requested that there be no personal gifts, in lieu of which you are requested to bring something to add to the refreshment table to share with all. And yes, in keeping with the celebratory nature of this event, elegant and festive dress is appropriate (i.e., dress to impress!!).

Here are the details from the invitation, a PDF version of which you may also find at

R.s.v.p. not required but feel free to drop an email to Anne, especially if you're visiting from out of town.

For those who wish to attend from out of town, Boston has tango events everyday (afternoons and nights on weekends ...), so you can make a Tango weekend out of it -- see the Boston-area calendars at http://tango.havetodance.com/calendar.html or http://bostontango.org/events_calendar.aspx. The most convenient hotel to the venue--a walk across a largish parking lot--is the Hyatt Place Boston/Medford, 116 Riverside Av, Medford, Massachusetts, and it you're making a weekend of it, there happens to be another milonga at the same location on the previous night as well.
