Mariano Castro, pianist of the legendary electronic tango band Narcotango, will teach & perform this Wednesday, October 10, and next Wednesday, October 17, at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School. <http://philadelphiatangoschool.com> Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mariano Castro<http://www.philadelphiatangoschool.com/mariano-castro.html>has toured internationally as a soloist and with various ensemble projects, and since 2008, he has performed with world-renowned electronic tango band Narcotango, twice nominated for a Latin Grammy for best tango album. In 2007, he released his second solo album, Ode Porteña (2007), a selection of tangos he arranged and recorded with major artists and guest musicians. Castro has gained fame around the world for his tango history and musicality workshops, and his tours have been declared “of national interest” by the Argentine Ministry of Culture. Here's the schedule for the next two Wednesdays: *7:30-9 pm:* Argentine Tango Music History/Musicality Workshop taught by Mariano Castro with live demonstrations on the piano & guitar *October 10 Topic:* History & Evolution of Tango Music (Open to tango dancers & enthusiasts) *October 17 Topic:* Tango Musicality for Dancers (Open to tango dancers at all levels) *9 pm-midnight:* Palermo Fishtown Milonga, featuring pianist Mariano Castro performing live for dancing and with DJ Ewa von Esse The workshop costs $25 in advance ($30 at the door) or one class-card punch (the cheapest way). As always, there is a 20% discount for full-time students. The following milonga costs $5 for workshop attendees and $12 for all others. The milonga will be charged at the door.
