Carol: I use Bloch Jazz Shoes. I don't know what he doesn't like about the look. They are the lightest shoes I've danced in. I had to give up regular dance shoes because I was kicking women with the hard heel when I wrapped my foot around their foot. Now I don't have that problem but still kept the Jazz shoes.
Since most milongas are just about pitch black, nobody is going to look at his shoes anyway.
