Perhaps the emphasis on close embrace has been dropped because the organizers
have realized that it just won't work in San Diego. We also have to talk about
branding. The San Diego festival is a sister festival of the Denver Festival,
which is known as a close-embrace festival. The photos for the San Diego
festival feature 2 tango teachers/dj's (Robert Hauk and Avik Basu) whose
preference for close-embrace dancing is widely known. It would normal for
someone to see that promotion and expect it to be close-embrace. An outside
organizer would have a tough time keeping things close-embrace if that
community (and their teachers) don't keep with the spirit of the event.
