Chris Jordan gently correct me, he is right, we should say "Notorius bars" for
the bares notables in Buenos Aires.

I would like to translate part of an interview to Omar Viola, the organizer of
the milonga Parakultural at Salon Canning, and many other tango activities.
Maybe it could be better to understood, what was the atmosphere and/or pattern
of tango orchestras and the bars, on the 50's and early 60's .

The interview is in spanish on Punto tango magazine at

Omar Viola - Interview

-Was the tango part of your family everyday life ?
-My dad when he was young, go to the downtown bars, where for the price pf a
coffee, you can enjoy a tango orchestra, the finest. It would be great that this
could happen again, today we do not have a culture to go and watch the
orchestras, live.

-What memories have from tango, during your childhood ?
-I remember my father listening to the first beatings of a tango, my dad
saying: Is D `Arienzo. And it was D Arienzo, really. That was a kind of
magic perfomance, to me.

-And when you begun to enjoy tango ?
- I like tango since ever . I liked it musically, the ethnical factor, even
before to know what ethnic music meant. The original music of all the world,
makes me feel emotional, imagine therefore how tango impacts me ! that has all
a reality, a way to see and think the world, that ties my grandfather , my
history and myself. I feel very emotioned with primitive tango.

- That related with tango music . And with tango dance ?
- There was not a tango culture at home. My dad was socialist, follower of
Palacios ( =Alfredo Palacios, a deputy for the socialist party in Argentina)
and he has not the culture of the dance , he do have the culture to listen to,
but not to go to dance. To enjoy things more to the side of the intelectual,
the mind, not to put the body in motion.
