Ed....I can understand your dilemma, it must be nerve wracking for the lead to 
feel he has to be in constant motion...from the follow's point of 
view....taking a pause between steps in the form of an amague or long graceful 
walks is far better than being in constant motion, also the pause, while you 
prepare yourself for the next step, allows the follow to adorn and 
embellish...always a wonderful moment...and i am of the philososphy of keeping 
it simple, listing to the music for inspiration and not feeling like the leads 
are machines that have to keep cranking out steps in order to satisfy the 
follow..a follow who does not appreciate elegant, connected simplicity and 
musical interpretation  probably is not worth worrying about.  sherrie
