Fortunately as a rank beginner, I began taking classes from Sridhar in Phila. He was highly recommended by a friend and he didn't charge much at all..he wasn't in it for the money. The classes were at his home and everything was taught and practiced in close embrace. He is an ex-student of Susana Miller. It was just a great experience participating with all the others in the ronda in close embrace. It was magic. I can certainly say that without those classes, I would have an almost completely negative attitude towards tango 'teachers'..the previous post about 'giving them what they want, not what they need' and 'watching them forget last weeks figures and come back for more', pretty much sums up 90% of classes that I have seen.. today, I would not consider taking a general class that was taught and practiced in open hold instead of close embrace. In the case of the advice to use common sense in culling only the useful from each class...sure, that's fine for someone who's been dancing 4 years or more but what about the rank beginner..he is being thrown to the sharks.
