Last Saturday (5/3/11) the Sydney based Tango school - Patio de Tango held a Fundraising Milonga in Sydney, Australia to raise funds for the Christchurch Earthquake appeal.
A similar fundraising milonga was held in Melbourne, Australia. There are many kiwis in the tango community in Australia (the writer included). We have many friends in the Tango community in Christchurch and as far as I'm aware all have survived this terrible natural disaster which has really devastated Christchurch and NZ as a whole. The intrepid tangueros and tangueras of Christchurch are now starting to get back into 'tangoing after the tremors'. They say it has been calming to the soul to be able to Tango after this awful ordeal. I hear that amazingly their venue was one of the few buildings in Christchurch that was not damaged. The iconic Cathedral of Christchurch went down but not the Tango venue...
