Two events worth noting today, if you happen to be in Buenos Aires. 1. A "Festival of Candombe" in San Telmo, with 20 comparsas (processions or a type of carnaval--the name of the Tango La Cumparsita comes from that) traversing down Defensa from Av. Independencia with staggered starts from 4:15 pm to 9 pm. The entire event is from 3-10 pm.
Pyromaniacs will want to be there at the start at 3 pm where, at Pasaje San Lorenzo off Defensa, there will be 4 large fires that are used to temper the drums. See details at http://agendacultural.buenosaires.gob.ar/evento/6ta-llamada-de-candombe-de-san-telmo/3655 2. La Gran Milonga Nacional from 8 pm to 3 am on Avenida de Mayo between Perú and 9 de Julio, with two large stages at each end of the avenue, and one more in the middle. Varios Tango orchestras, dancers, etc., performing. And yes, people do dance on the streets (but take something more solid than your delicate chrome-leather-soled dance shoes if you don't want to wear them out completely). Best description I could find was at http://www.2xtango.com/la-gran-milonga-nacional-2011-sabado-17-de-diciembre/ Shahrukh _______________________________________________ Tango-L mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/tango-l
