There's no license to stop you, but I'd prefer not to merge it to contrib just yet :) First of all, I would at least like to complete the transition to prototype.js (and scriptalicious), and there's still more real-world experience required before this can be a really good design that we can commit to in the long run (for example, XTile-like features incorporated, and a few good components).
